Cabanatuan Food Trip: Bakerstreet

8:34 AM

So its Monday finally! Why am I excited for Mondays while everyone's bragging about it? My friends and I have a tradition that every Monday we should visit new restaurant's and food places for our lunch or dinner, just to make our Mondays exciting

August 3, 2015 when we decided to visit BakerStreet. Located at Burgos Street, (in front of Good Samaritan Hospital) we decided to take our merienda break in this particular branch. We've heard a lot of buzz about Bakerstreet. For some reasons, Cafe's like this has recently been taking the attention of food lovers and bloggers in Cabanatuan. In fact, this is one of the many new coffee shop in the city.

Let see how it goes.

Photo grabbed on Bakerstreet's facebook page taken on the same day we were there
Upon entering we've noticed that the place is a bit small making it look crowded. According to my observation, it could only accommodate more or less 40 customers.
Photo taken after before we left
We want a place to relax for we're stress the past weeks (exam week) so we decided to seat at the last table near the counter away from the crowd. We're seated beside the admin of the facebook page ( I guess the one in charge of digital marketing) and from there I ask questions about the stores and found out that the this branch just opened last June, 2015. I ask that because noticeably, the place is not yet fully furnished.
It lacks the details and proper lighting to create an the ambiance we're looking for, a relaxing, book-reading friendly place, and because its too small I can help but notice hear eeeeeeeveryone talking amp up by the inappropriate choice of music and volume. I'm looking for that "coffee shop feels"

Price ranges from PHP55 - 150
We're presented with this menu, a checklist. I wanted to try the Crispy Leche Flan, too bad it isn't available during our visit. We ordered...

Strawberry Yogurt and Kiwi Strawberry (Fruit Drinks)

Kiwi Strawberry (left) and Strawberry yogurt (right)
A mix of fruity and tangy taste yogurt in a jar. I tried other fruit drinks and this one is quite good, nothing special, but for that price and serving it was A ok. It's really really refreshing perfect for that tiring hot afternoon.

Sweets
Nutella Cupcake (Displayed but not on the menu)

Blue Berry Chocolate Cake (Displayed but not on the menu)
So this has the same cupcake and same frosting, the only difference is the Nutella has Nutella on top and the other has blueberry (You don't say) nothing more nothing less. I'm looking for their red velvet, but it isn't available and this doesn't satisfy my craving in any way. It was ok but needs a lot of improvement in term of that cupcake base. I'm looking for a tastier, fluffier base.

Nutella Waffles
Nutella Waffles (PHP35)
I could make better waffles than this. It tasted familiar, I had a peek at the counter saw the same brand I always pick up at grocery stores, that's explains it but again for that price, we couldn't expect more.

Gourmet Tuyo Puttanesca

Gourmet Tuyo Puttanesca (PHP90)

Gourmet Tuyo Puttanesca (PHP90)

Before we leave, we decided to have a taste of their pasta. That Gourmet Tuyo Puttanesca sounds interesting. I asked the waitress if the tuyo was bought in Cabanatuan but she doesn't have access to the production of their dishes. It tasted fine, but the combination of tuyo and that sauce didn't quite matched and I'm not a fan of their pasta. This is not that Al dente pasta I'm looking for.

THE GOOD

For the price, we couldn't ask for more. They offer affordable mixes of the drinks, sweets, pasta and rice dishes suitable for the budget of a student. No wonder majority of the customers we encountered were students from different school and universities. The place provides a decent place to dine and hang out with your friends. Service crew are tentative, courteous, cordial and friendly.

THE BAD

Before we go to this place, we have expected a lot from the food, the place and the ambiance, however Bakerstreets failed to live up with our expectations. It was a decent dining experience. Just lower your expectation before going to the place.

FINAL VERDICT

Again, BakerStreet Cabanatuan provides a decent dining experience. It fails to meet our expectations, however the price is one of the key selling points of this place. Affordability is the difference, though we are willing to pay extra for the a better experience.

Will I be coming back?

Perhaps, but not today nor tomorrow. A year or two maybe?
Bakerstreet Cabanatuan has already started well for it creates a buzz and noise throughout the city upon its opening. In fact, we heard about it through words-of-mouth. In the presence of a lot of competitors which offers variety of great options at a higher price, the market within the place can easily compare the experience, for the competition is tough and other better options are present at that price range.

BakerStreet is still in its infancy stage, though where it tries to dominate its target market. Overtime, I hope it will learn a lot and improve based on the competitions' standard, but for now let's just wait and see what will happen next.

PS: I'll try their coffee and update this post as soon as I get lost near the one their branches.
